What Do Cicadas Eat?

In my years of observing insects, I've seen cicadas feeding many times. They don't eat solid plant parts like some bugs do. Instead, they use their specialized mouthparts to pierce plant tissues and suck out the sap. It's like they're drinking from a tree-flavored juice box! Nymphs do this with roots, adults with branches.
